Boyce Thompson Arboretum with the Cactus Club

On Saturday, April 22, 2006, The Tucson Corvair Association and the Cactus Corvair Club of Phoenix held their annual joint get-together. This year the Boyce Thomson Arboretum, a state park near Superior, Arizona, was the gathering spot for the two clubs. The picnic was delightful and, even though there we only a few in attendance, a fun time was had by all. Enjoy a few of the pictures below. Just click on the thumbnail to see the enlarged version. Here's a shot of the "group" at the gathering spot in the parking lot of Trader Joe's on Oracle and McGee. Dave Martin proudly stands beside his convertible with his lovely bride seated inside. Van Pershing's Stinger clone anxiously awaits the trip while Van takes the picture. The "caravan" traveled uneventfully up Highway 77 thru Florence Junction to the Arboretum.
Only about 15 people were there in all. The Cactus Club had a nice showing of two Corvairs and a new Mustang GT convertible. The Tucson club had three 'Vairs and one little tiny station wagon that carried the food and drink. Attending from TCA were Barry Cunningham and his daughter Casidy, President Bill Maynard, Lynn Mars, Dave Martin and his lovely bride and Van Pershing
This '64 convertible was one of the cars from Cactus.
On the left is Dave Martin's '63 convertible. On the right with the unusual fender skirts and continental kit is the other car from Cactus.
For the first in modern history, the late model cars from TCA out numbered the early models. In the foreground is Van Pershing's '66 with Barry Cunningham's yellow beauty closely behind.
A group from the Unofficial Corvette Club (UOCC) from the Valley was having an outing at the Arboretum and came over for a little chat and took some pictures of our cars.
