Chevy Showdown 2017 |
||||
On April 9, 2017, the TCA participated in the annual Chevy Showdown which was held at the Desert Diamond Casino south of Tucson and sponsored by the Classic Chevy Club of Tucson. It was a great event and several TCA members helped with judging and parking. The weather was beautiful although a little windy at times. There were nearly 140 cars this year 9 of which were Corvairs including 4 from the Cactus Club down from the Phoenix area. This is the second year that the Chevy Showndown was open tol all GM cars so there were several Pontiacs, Buicks, Oldsmobiles, GMC trucks and Cadillacs in attendance making up about 15 percent of the cars on display. In the Corvair early model class Miner Fleming of the Cactus Club took first place honors with his Rampside, being other only early model Corvair at the show. In the late model class, Joe Lewis and Dave and Cathy Wenzlick of the Cactus Club took first and second places. Ron Bloom of the Tucson Club received the third place plaque.
